There are very few spaces for systematic training of grassroots and community leaders and educators (agents of change) in education, analysis and reflection and a scarcity of publishing houses dedicated to producing quality, digestible educational support materials on social, economic, political and environmental development issues for these popular sectors. Equipo Maíz is dedicated to adult (popular) education through publications and training and aims to facilitate learning and analysis at the grassroots on issues that affect local people to enable them to have a better understanding of these issues and the capacity to propose alternative policies. It aims to increase people’s commitment to social justice and encourage them to take an active role in creating change. Through this project Equipo Maíz will provide training for over 1,605 agents of social change, as well as producing new and re-editing existing publications and materials. Of special interest in this new cycle are reflections on doing grass roots work within one's organization and developing useful tools for this. The application of practical and strategic gender approaches in all aspects of MAIZ's operational and programmatic work is noteworthy, something which is being continued and strengthened in this new proposal.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC027"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development function of the Commission for Social Apostolate of the Jesuits in Central America is to encourage the Province and its works throughout the region to strengthen and recommit itself to working for social justice and to ensure the necessary transformation of all its social outreach activities so as to achieve this end. In particular this mission is to be accomplished through the development and diffusion of social, theological and cultural analysis and reflection, through serving as a link for cooperation at a regional level as well as farther afield, through seeking to unite "macro" vision and "micro" actions and through developing projects with and among the poor to serve as examples of an alternative vision of society. This project will ensure a level of minimum support to the coordination activities of CPAS, in addition to providing specific support to the region wide initiatives of the Province.

It This programme is supported by two important funds, the “Haramead Trust and a Major Donor” for the next three years. An important part will be to introduce and work with partners on the application of monitoring tools to effectively measure improvements in quality of life and to help partners plan a more comprehensive DRR approach at an institutional level. This internal project is essential to achieving the overall programme aim of contributing to improve the livelihoods of 21,802 beneficiaries, through the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices and the incidence in public policy to ensure access, control and management of natural resources by the communities.

This internal grant includes funding for the hosting and organisation of annual events / workshops, establishment and administration of a virtual learning platform, partner exchange visits, promotion of increased co-ordination and learning between the regional partner network and other networks and regional programmes.

support to the initiatives of the Province.

The primary function of the CPAS is to encourage the Province and its works throughout the region, to strengthen and recommit itself to working for social justice and to ensure the necessary transformation of all its social outreach activities.

In particular this mission is to be accomplished through the development and diffusion of social, theological and cultural analysis and reflection, by serving as a link for cooperation at a regional strengthening grassroots organisations’ capacity to analyse and understand women’s roles in history, in El Salvador.

Whilst levels of community organisation in El Salvador and throughout Central America are relatively good, grassroots sectors of civil society are often lacking basic information, analysis and understanding about the economic and political systems, structures and trends that shape their reality and impact their lives and livelihoods. There are very few spaces for systematic training of grassroots and community leaders and educators (agents of change) in education, (particularly gender) analysis and reflection. There is a scarcity of publishing houses dedicated to producing quality, user friendly educational support materials on social, economic, political and environmental development issues for these popular sectors.

Equipo Maíz is dedicated to popular education through publications and training and aims to facilitate learning and analysis at the grassroots on issues that affect local people, to enable them to have a better understanding of these issues and the capacity to propose alternative policies and solutions. It aims to increase people’s commitment to social justice and encourages them to take an active role in creating change.

Through this project, Equipo Maiz is part of the new CAFOD Regional Gender and HIV Capacity strengthening Programme and the Human Rights and Governance programme. This year will be dedicated to working with women and men from grassroots organisations to strengthen their analysis capacity to understand women's role in history and to plan activities from a historical and gender equity perspective. Last year of funding: Phasing out.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC045"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="23" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC045"><narrative>Asociación Equipo Maíz</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="CAC045" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2014-01-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2018-12-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-region code="389" vocabulary="1"><narrative>North &amp; Central America, regional</narrative></recipient-region><sector vocabulary="1" code="15110" percentage="50" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15151" percentage="50" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2013-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2014-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2014-01-01">17857.0000</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2014-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2015-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2015-01-01">17060.8280</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2015-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2016-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2016-01-01">35250.5064</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2017-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2018-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2018-01-01">17592.4812</value></budget><transaction ref="44644"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2013-10-28" /><value value-date="2013-10-28">17857.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-CAC045"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="46450"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2014-12-09" /><value value-date="2014-12-09">17060.8280</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-CAC045"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="47722"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2015-11-11" /><value value-date="2015-11-11">17393.5064</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-CAC045"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="49065"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2016-10-31" /><value value-date="2016-10-31">17857.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-CAC045"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="50303"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2017-12-06" /><value value-date="2017-12-06">17592.4812</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC045"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="59202"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2014-02-12" /><value value-date="2013-10-28">17857.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Asociación Equipo Maíz</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="60431"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2014-12-12" /><value value-date="2014-12-09">17060.8300</value><receiver-org><narrative>Asociación Equipo Maíz</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="61722"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2015-11-30" /><value value-date="2015-11-11">17393.5100</value><receiver-org><narrative>Asociación Equipo Maíz</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="62953"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2016-11-03" /><value value-date="2016-10-31">17857.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Asociación Equipo Maíz</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="64495"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2017-12-11" /><value value-date="2017-12-06">17592.4800</value><receiver-org><narrative>Asociación Equipo Maíz</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-CAC047</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Regionwide Central America Human Rights &amp; Governace programmes support</narrative></title><description><narrative>This Project has been designed to facilitate encounters for planning and evaluation of the 2015-2018 CAFOD´s regional Human Rights &amp; Governance programme. CAFOD will oversee its management and play a coordination and facilitation role in its delivery – in particular with regards to the activities of the regional partner networks and the related emphasis on learning and experience sharing between partners and more widely. An important part of this will be to introduce and work with partners on the application of CAFOD resources; including (but not limited to) monitoring tools to more effectively measure improvements in partners work. This internal project is also essential to achieving the overall programme aims to contribute to the integral promotion and defence of the human rights of indigenous people in Central America, to the strengthening of their identities, and to build citizenship in the region. Finally, through this project CAFOD supports research initiatives about the human rights situation on Central America.

The 10 partner members of the livelihoods programme will be the direct beneficiaries, this number can be increased. The partners will select some members of the technical team and representative leaders, who will be trained by Centro Humboldt. Some of the topics will include: identifying the causes and alternative strategies for climate change adaptation; promoting better adaptation practices through public policies and national strategies; promoting dialogue between civil society and government about climate change.

The methodology is called cascading. First at least 10 people (6 men and 4 women) from each partner will be trained, then those people will be replicated in their communities and institutions spreading the training.

The virtual platform will use different tools and methods to set up a monitoring system that will be highly visual, and will provide reports to track project progress at three levels – farmers, partners and donors.

The VSFM will be new in the region, so CAFOD’s partner SIMAS will need to work closely with the targeted partners on development and implementation. CAFOD has prioritised two Nicaraguan partners with whom to pilot it, before rollout to the remainder. The project will involve detailed design and implementation activities, followed by a series of workshops to scale up to the remaining partners, tailor the system to their needs, and assess the monitoring results.

SIMAS carried out a rapid assessment to identify partner priorities and needs (see documents in webpromise). One of the findings is that partners feel they need continued accompaniment on how to improve tools and skills for using these two online platforms. They mention that they need to improve communication skills in order to write and share more case studies, and write informational notes, and finally partners think that the online monitoring system needs improvement to be more user friendly.

This project aims to improve the Online System for Farm Monitoring (OSFM: (http://monitoreo-finca.cafodca.org/) and the learning exchange platform ((http://cafodca.org/). The online monitoring system and the learning platform needs to improve tools and design for better comprehension and analysis of the data produced. SIMAS will carry out regional courses as well as field visits to each partner across the region. One innovation will be to use digital media to give talks and technical support.

Partners need to work closely on development and implementation of these tools. Due to the complexity and the cost of this system, CAFOD had prioritized in the first phase just two Nicaraguan partners with whom we worked as a pilot project this new system. However, this project is now aimed at all the Central America partners.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC056"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="23" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC056"><narrative>Servicio de Información Mesoamericano sobre Agricultura Sostenible</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="CAC056" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2018-07-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2020-06-30" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-region code="389" vocabulary="1"><narrative>North &amp; Central America, regional</narrative></recipient-region><sector vocabulary="1" code="11330" percentage="40" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15110" percentage="60" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2018-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2019-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2018-07-01">12000.0000</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2019-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2020-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2019-07-01">12302.0000</value></budget><transaction ref="51188"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2018-07-31" /><value value-date="2018-07-31">9000.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC056"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="51189"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2018-07-31" /><value value-date="2018-07-31">3000.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC056"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="52177"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2019-06-14" /><value value-date="2019-06-14">12302.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC056"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="65466"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2018-08-01" /><value value-date="2018-07-31">12000.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Servicio de Información Mesoamericano sobre Agricultura Sostenible</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="66488"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2019-06-24" /><value value-date="2019-06-14">12302.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Servicio de Información Mesoamericano sobre Agricultura Sostenible</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-CAC064</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Gender and Methodologies Virtual Platform Phase II</narrative></title><description><narrative>This project benefits social organisations working with gender perspective and on gender based violence prevention, facilitating a virtual space for reflection, and experiences and knowledge exchange. With this dynamic, they have methodological tools, broaden their theoretical-conceptual framework and strengthen their advocacy actions in favor of a more just and equal society, without gender based violence.
The project is aimed at civil society organizations, universities and social agents that promote changes towards gender equity in Central America (and LAC).
First, a Virtual Platform was installed. Second, the integration as active members was motivated to all those organizations that raised this initiative as an urgent need in the Central American Meeting "Women and men walking towards gender equity", convened by Cantera in September 2017, among which are the member organizations of the Network for Equity and Gender Equality (RPEIG) of Nicaragua, different organizations that work on equity and non-violence in the country, organizations of the sister countries of Central America, counterparts of cooperation agencies that work at an intense level for gender equality and non-violence. CANTERA did enable the virtual space by sharing information about participating organizations and providing inputs to encourage dialogue, debate and reflection.
Once installed, webinars were promoted, as well as alliances at the local, national or regional level for mass dissemination of gender equality campaigns and the prevention of gender violence.
Third, it opened to other organizations or institutions interested in the subject to strengthen themselves more with the diversity of contributions, knowledge and experiences.
Since second half of 2022, the platform is managed by CEP-Alforja with former Cantera team members as consultants.
This is CAC058 phase II and responds to the pathways for change stated at the CAFOD Central America regional strategy from 2023 onwards.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC064"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="23" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC064"><narrative>Anonymous - excluded for security reasons</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="CAC064" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2024-01-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2025-12-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-region code="389" vocabulary="1"><narrative>North &amp; Central America, regional</narrative></recipient-region><sector vocabulary="1" code="15110" percentage="100" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2023-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2024-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2024-01-01">22456.6929</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2024-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2025-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2025-01-01">22827.8769</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2025-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2026-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2026-01-01">18115.9420</value></budget><transaction ref="57607"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2023-12-20" /><value value-date="2023-12-20">22456.6929</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC064"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="58428"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-11-14" /><value value-date="2024-11-14">22827.8769</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC064"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="60436"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-02-05" /><value value-date="2026-02-05">18115.9420</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC064"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="72877"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-01-25" /><value value-date="2023-12-20">22456.6900</value><receiver-org><narrative>Anonymous - excluded for security reasons</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="73773"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-11-29" /><value value-date="2024-11-14">11413.9400</value><receiver-org><narrative>Anonymous - excluded for security reasons</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="73774"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2025-06-09" /><value value-date="2024-11-14">11413.9400</value><receiver-org><narrative>Anonymous - excluded for security reasons</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="75923"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-02-16" /><value value-date="2026-02-05">18115.9400</value><receiver-org><narrative>Anonymous - excluded for security reasons</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-CAC065</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Central America: a movement of wills for dignity</narrative></title><description><narrative>The Jesuit Central American Provincial Commission of the Social Apostolate (CPAS) understands that working for dignified life and justice requires deep reflection and collective audacity and that the future of Central America is forged by all of us, in community, in a network. For this reason, we are invited to trust in new forms of relationships: taking care of ourselves and our Common Home; promoting leadership that overcomes individualism; encouraging a new democratic political culture, in which the dignity of all people is at the centre.
Together with the diversity of voices and perspectives of women, youth, popular movements, indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples, people in forced mobility and other groups, CPAS seeks to build alternatives and raise hope in the face of this capitalist, patriarchal and racist system that violates the Central American peoples.
In synthesis, five are the most complex problems of the Central American reality that we face:
 	Fading democratic systems
Concentrating, exclusionary and predatory economic model.
Risks and complexities in the forced mobilisation of people.
Growing human rights violations: gender equality as a priority
Communication: new narratives and inspiring agendas
The project aims to assist in the implementation of the Strategic Directions 2023-2027 set by the Jesuits through two objectives:
i) To strengthen networking and articulation at local, national and regional levels of works and sectors of the Society of Jesus in the Central American region (inwards).
ii) To contribute to the development of regional proposals as a realisation of the "Faith and Justice" option in harmony with the religious, social, political, economic and cultural commitment of the social dimension that Jesuit works must promote (outwards).</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC065"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="23" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC065"><narrative>La Comisión Provincial de Apostolado Social de la Provincia Centroamericana de </narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="CAC065" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2024-01-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2026-12-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-region code="389" vocabulary="1"><narrative>North &amp; Central America, regional</narrative></recipient-region><sector vocabulary="1" code="15110" percentage="40" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="50" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2023-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2024-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2024-01-01">22204.7244</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2024-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2025-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2025-01-01">20615.3846</value></budget><transaction ref="57588"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2023-12-18" /><value value-date="2023-12-18">22204.7244</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC065"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="58448"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-12-10" /><value value-date="2024-12-10">20615.3846</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC065"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="72859"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-01-17" /><value value-date="2023-12-18">22204.7200</value><receiver-org><narrative>La Comisión Provincial de Apostolado Social de la Provincia Centroamericana de </narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="73841"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-12-16" /><value value-date="2024-12-10">10307.6900</value><receiver-org><narrative>La Comisión Provincial de Apostolado Social de la Provincia Centroamericana de </narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="73842"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2025-07-14" /><value value-date="2024-12-10">10307.6900</value><receiver-org><narrative>La Comisión Provincial de Apostolado Social de la Provincia Centroamericana de </narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-CAC068</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Pilot[Phase 1] Strengthening the humanit capacity of Jesuit Network for Migration in Central America</narrative></title><description><narrative>One of the main characteristics of Central America continues to be the forced displacement of people, due to the structural factors ( poverty, climate vulnerability, inequality, exclusion, generalised violence, gender-based violence, weakening of institutions and the democratic system, corruption, impunity, decrease in public social investment, among others), as well as the rise of authoritarianism and the increasingly visible impacts of climate change in different areas, especially in the Dry Corridor.
In Nicaragua, the forced displacement of people since the outbreak of the socio-political crisis in 2018 has not abated. Also, in 2023, more than 500,000 migrants in transit crossed the Darién jungle and, as part of their route through Central America. It has become evident that people in situations of greater vulnerability such as women, girls and boys, LGBTIQ+, victims of torture face greater abuse during their migratory route due to State violence, organised crime and lack of information, humanitarian aid and protection services.
The Jesuit Network with Migrants Central America (RJM-CA), the regional coordinating body for the social works of the Society of Jesus in Central America that provide care and accompaniment to forced migrants, as part of the direct response in each country and the reflections carried out jointly in coordination spaces and its Strategic Planning 2023-2027.
1) Strengthening the humanitarian capacity of RJM-CA members and organisational preparedness based on international standards (Sphere, CALP, IASC, etc) and developing joint guidelines and a common understanding among the network members of how to respond to forced migration.
2)Develop a case management - "humanitarian bridge" - tracking particularly vulnerable cases and offering information about services available with a rights-based perspective.
3) Developing an Alert and Response interagency mechanism.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC068"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="80" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC068"><narrative>Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="CAC068" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2024-04-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2025-03-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-region code="389" vocabulary="1"><narrative>North &amp; Central America, regional</narrative></recipient-region><sector vocabulary="1" code="15110" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="72010" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="72040" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="74020" percentage="20" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2024-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2025-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2024-04-01">43307.0866</value></budget><transaction ref="57928"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-03-13" /><value value-date="2024-03-13">47244.0944</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC068"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="58458"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-03-13" /><value value-date="2024-03-13">-3937.0078</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC068"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="73114"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-05-07" /><value value-date="2024-03-13">43307.0900</value><receiver-org><narrative>Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-CAC069</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Strengthening capacities for sustainability and fundraising of CAFOD partners in Central America</narrative></title><description><narrative>The current situation reported by civil society organisations in Central America is characterised by several issues that affect their capacities for sustainability and fundraising:
-There is a decline in the sub-region in terms of resources dedicated by institutional donors, UN agencies, accompanying organisations (similar to CAFOD) and T&amp;F. This is due to several factors, including wars and humanitarian crises.
-This has resulted in increased competition for the same resources among civil society organisations. Local organisations must compete among themselves and with other actors (UN, INGOs, etc.) to access the scarce resources available to ensure their survival.
- Despite a theoretical discourse that prioritises "localisation", many of these resources are also co-opted by international entities that continue to be more competitive due to their size and capacities.
- This also affects the ability of these organisations to effectively lobby and influence donor priorities based on the real needs they encounter in their local and national contexts. The funding available and their priorities remain subjugated to current diplomatic and commercial interests.
Led by COMAL, this project aims to support three key areas:
R1 - Strengthen knowledge (identification, communication and understanding) of funding opportunities
R2 - Improve strategic positioning for funding through technical support (marketing, positioning) and peer-to-peer and consortium approaches
R3 - Strengthen capacities for decision-making, design/learning and M&amp;E of proposal development processes.

It is necessary to generate technical environmental information from the perspective and realities of civil society, to be presented as evidence of the deterioration of the environment in the region and its consequences for human life and biodiversity in general. This information must have a technical-scientific quality, but also be pertinent to the realities of the local communities, considering gender roles, so that it reflects the difficulties and opportunities of these, thus contributing to regional and international debates in the search for joint solutions, which in turn, promote the collaboration of the different regional actors.

This project aims to contribute to the generation and dissemination of current socio-environmental information and equitable and inclusive proposals for the improvement of environmental public policies. To this end, it will focus on the development of the Natural Resources Observatory. This initiative seeks to create useful tools to systematise environmental information from the communities, analyse public policies on environmental issues of interest, generate evidence for advocacy and promote dialogue sharing the ideal of caring our common home. </narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC070"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="23" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC070"><narrative>Anonymous - excluded for security reasons</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="CAC070" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2024-08-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2027-02-28" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-region code="389" vocabulary="1"><narrative>North &amp; Central America, regional</narrative></recipient-region><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="41010" percentage="40" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="41010" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="41081" percentage="20" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2024-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2025-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2024-08-01">23076.9230</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2025-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2026-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2026-03-01">35555.5555</value></budget><transaction ref="58293"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-11-14" /><value value-date="2024-11-14">23076.9230</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC070"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="60595"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-03-09" /><value value-date="2026-03-09">35555.5555</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC070"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="73771"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-11-25" /><value value-date="2024-11-14">11538.4600</value><receiver-org><narrative>Anonymous - excluded for security reasons</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="74555"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2025-09-03" /><value value-date="2024-11-14">11538.4600</value><receiver-org><narrative>Anonymous - excluded for security reasons</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="77130"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-04-09" /><value value-date="2026-03-09">17777.7800</value><receiver-org><narrative>Anonymous - excluded for security reasons</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-CAC072</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Support and accompaniment for proposals presented to external donors in Central America</narrative></title><description><narrative>Currently, there are few funding opportunities beyond CAFOD's general fund (CGF), as Central America is not a region of primary interest to large institutional donors or governments. It is expected to increase the options for the strategic partners included in the Core Programme adopted in 2023. Originally, the workshop was only going to target jesuit entities linked to the RJM, under CAC068. Then it was discussed that if the training was already been organised, other CAFOD partners could also benefit from it.
Considering the funds under CAC068 were limited and they will only cover RJM representatives (and not other CAFOD partner representatives) we have allocated additional funding to this task. It will also cover some representatives from Caritas Haiti as per discussions with ESRT. The workshop is being led by RJM under the work of CAC068, CAFOD is contributing to the expenses of adding additional participants to the workshop.

The agenda is being co-developed with RJM but the main areas to cover are the following ones:
- Humanitarian principles and essential humanitarian norm &amp; Sphere standards
- The context of emergencies within Central America
- Decision making: Experiences with CASH and other sectors of intervention.
- Articulation and coordination, including actors mapping
- Preparedness actions - roles and responsibilities
- Actions to undertake beforehand to be ready: Suppliers, needs assessments, etc
- Types of emergency responses
- Risk management
- Planning PPE for partners
- START Fund - how does it work

The project will reduce the vulnerability of people in transit, return or displacement in El Salvador and Guatemala, Panama, Costa Rica, promoting their protection, assistance and dignity through comprehensive accompaniment (humanitarian, psychosocial and legal) in the framework of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), through a regional strategy between works of the RJM-CA and in alliances with other organisations and institutions of civil society and the Church.
On 20 January 2025, after the inauguration, the US President signed executive orders related to migration and borders, suspending humanitarian parole programmes that benefited more than half a million people in transit (Confidential, 2025). Also, mass deportations from the US (WOLA, 2025); at least 61,465 expulsions and inadmissibilities have been reported (CBP, 2025). A number of people continue to be at risk and in need for protection services in Central American countries.
The conditions in the countries of origin continue to worsen: those who are working with migrants face significant challenges in providing protection and humanitarian response due to the sudden cuts in humanitarian funding.
This project works with people in need of protection (migrants, asylum seekers and stateless people), IDPs, forced or voluntary returns as well as those unable to continue their journey for different reasons.
Overall outcome: People in human mobility in Central America receive immediate humanitarian assistance, strengthen their capacities for emotional self-management and access regularisation, protection and integration processes, mitigating their conditions of vulnerability.
Out1. Immediate basic humanitarian needs addressed
Out2. Psychosocial assistance
Out3. Legal assistance and guidance

The project aims to assist in the implementation of the Strategic Directions 2023-2027 set by the Jesuits through two objectives:
i) To strengthen networking and articulation at local, national and regional levels of works and sectors of the Society of Jesus in the Central American region (inwards).
ii) To contribute to the development of regional proposals as a realisation of the "Faith and Justice" option in harmony with the religious, social, political, economic and cultural commitment of the social dimension that Jesuit works must promote (outwards).</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC078"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="22" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC078"><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="CAC078" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2026-01-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2028-12-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-region code="389" vocabulary="1"><narrative>North &amp; Central America, regional</narrative></recipient-region><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="50" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="30" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2025-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2026-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2026-01-01">17608.6956</value></budget><transaction ref="60429"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-02-03" /><value value-date="2026-02-03">17608.6956</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC078"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="75902"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-02-11" /><value value-date="2026-02-03">17608.7000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-CAC079</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Responding to urgent needs of migrants, displaced persons and refugees in Central America 2026</narrative></title><description><narrative>A comprehensive humanitarian response that combines direct assistance, psychosocial care and legal support, promoting regional coordination and the exchange of good practices to advance towards lasting solutions.

The Jesuit Network with Migrants in Central America (RJM-CA) is an interprovincial and intersectoral effort whose work focuses on migration, forced displacement and refuge. It is made up of national offices of the Jesuit Migrant Service (SJM), university programmes, parishes, Fe y Alegría and social works of the Central American Province of the Society of Jesus (PROCAM), together with other allied bodies.

The work of the RJM C.A. has continued its intervention through comprehensive and regional accompaniment, offering protection to those who leave or transit to the north of the region or remain in C.A. countries, forced to leave their homes due to political persecution, widespread violence, structural poverty and the effects of climate change. But also, in favour of the growing number of people expelled from the United States, forcibly returned to their country of origin, uprooted, without a social network, revictimised and unprotected, facing double vulnerability, being "foreigners in their own land" and in favour of those who were transferred to third countries, adding to the populations stranded in transit countries, unable to continue or return, in a situation of helplessness and insecurity in their countries of origin, finding themselves in legal and social limbo</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC079"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="23" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC079"><narrative>La Comisión Provincial de Apostolado Social de la Provincia Centroamericana de </narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="CAC079" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2026-01-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2027-01-01" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-region code="389" vocabulary="1"><narrative>North &amp; Central America, regional</narrative></recipient-region><sector vocabulary="1" code="72010" percentage="30" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="72010" percentage="70" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2025-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2026-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2026-01-01">40000.0000</value></budget><transaction ref="60543"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-03-01" /><value value-date="2026-03-01">40000.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC079"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="76994"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-03-03" /><value value-date="2026-03-01">40000.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>La Comisión Provincial de Apostolado Social de la Provincia Centroamericana de </narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-CAC080</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Coordinating, advocating and learning about human mobility in CAM</narrative></title><description><narrative>This project aims to strengthen a coordinated regional response by Church-based organisations to the growing crisis of human mobility in Central America. Migration and displacement in the region are driven by violence, political instability, poverty and climate change, leaving many people in need of protection and humanitarian assistance.

The initiative will bring together Caritas organisations, the Jesuit Migrant Network and other Church actors to improve coordination and collaboration across key countries along the migration route, particularly Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico. The project seeks to move from isolated interventions toward a more strategic regional programme supported by multiple international partners.

Activities will focus on strengthening coordination among Church networks, improving humanitarian assistance and protection services for migrants, and generating research and evidence to support advocacy. Through these efforts, the project aims to enhance the capacity of local organisations, improve support for migrants in vulnerable situations and promote more effective and coordinated responses to migration across the region.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC080"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="23" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC080"><narrative>Caritas Latin America &amp; Caribbean</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="CAC080" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2026-04-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2027-03-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-region code="389" vocabulary="1"><narrative>North &amp; Central America, regional</narrative></recipient-region><sector vocabulary="1" code="74020" percentage="100" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2026-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2027-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2026-04-01">29629.6296</value></budget><transaction ref="60641"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-03-10" /><value value-date="2026-03-10">29629.6296</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-CAC080"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction></iati-activity></iati-activities>
