Churches, both Protestant and Catholic, have presence all over Honduras, even where the State doesn’t, and, together with organized people, can be a prophetic voice to monitor public expenditure nationally and regionally inside Honduras, to make sure it’s directed to people’s real needs.
In order to coordinate the work of churches and social organisations, FOSDEH plans to start building wide regional ecumenical platforms to combat poverty and corruption in 3 regions of Honduras. Activities will include meetings to define alliances between churches and after that, between regional forums already established and the churches, the elaboration of participatory monitoring proposals and tools, training of 300 leaders on use of these tools and theological research in relation to socio-economic development and cultural elements as obstacles or facilitators to combat poverty.

As a founding and leading member of the Civic Alliance for the Reform of the Mining Law they have made significant progress in ensuring that the proposed reform bill contains the requisite social, legal and environmental safeguards and have supported and complemented the efforts of local grassroots organizations. Despite this progress, the approval of the reform bill has been subject to repeated delays, partly due to major divisions within civil society but mostly a result of political interests at play. This project will continue and complement the work carried out to date, focusing on three key areas: the mine closure plan for Entremares (mining company in the Siria Valley); the Reform of the Mining Law and a process of civic and environmental education at community and local authority levels.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON062"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON062"><narrative>Caritas Honduras, Tegucigalpa Archdiocese</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON062" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2007-07-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2009-06-30" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="100" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2007-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2008-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2007-07-01">17024.6305</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2008-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2009-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2008-07-01">13833.4269</value></budget><transaction ref="30195"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2007-10-23" /><value value-date="2007-10-23">17024.6305</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-HON062"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="32948"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2008-11-03" /><value value-date="2008-11-03">20005.6179</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-HON062"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="42629"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2008-11-03" /><value value-date="2008-11-03">-6172.1910</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-HON062"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="48070"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2008-01-28" /><value value-date="2007-10-23">17024.6300</value><receiver-org><narrative>Caritas Honduras, Tegucigalpa Archdiocese</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="49735"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2008-11-17" /><value value-date="2008-11-03">20005.6200</value><receiver-org><narrative>Caritas Honduras, Tegucigalpa Archdiocese</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="54510"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2011-06-16" /><value value-date="2008-11-03">-6172.1900</value><receiver-org><narrative>Caritas Honduras, Tegucigalpa Archdiocese</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON064</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Agricultural Rehabilitation for Communities affected by Tropical Depression 16 </narrative></title><description><narrative>This emergency project will support 150 households in 7 communities in Tegucigalpa Archdiocese who were affected by heavy rainfall and strong winds caused by Tropical Depression 16 which hit Honduras and other parts of Central America at the end of October 2008. Our partner Caritas Tegucigalpa will assist vulnerable families, whose homes and crops were damaged and/or destroyed by flooding and landslides, to restore their livelihood security through agricultural rehabilitation. As well as providing target households agricultural inputs with the aim of reducing levels of food insecurity, the project will have a strong focus on providing training and technical accompaniment on sustainable agricultural techniques in order to reduce vulnerability to future hazards. Caritas will support local emergency committees to design and implement Community Risk Maps and Disaster Risk Reduction Plans and provide training on natural resource management and environmental issues to increase awareness and improve community resilience to future hazards.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON064"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON064"><narrative>Caritas Honduras, Tegucigalpa Archdiocese</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON064" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2009-02-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2010-01-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="43060" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="73010" percentage="80" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2008-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2009-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2009-02-01">50130.0699</value></budget><transaction ref="33379"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2009-01-27" /><value value-date="2009-01-27">50130.0699</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-HON064"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="50149"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2009-02-13" /><value value-date="2009-01-27">50130.0700</value><receiver-org><narrative>Caritas Honduras, Tegucigalpa Archdiocese</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON066</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Sustainable Livelihood and Climate Change in Honduras</narrative></title><description><narrative>This development project is to be part of the new SL/DRR programme and aims to promote alternative socio-economic development with a focus on climate change by encouraging a sustainable use of natural resources. It aims to reduce environmental vulnerability and enable communities to improve the capacities of the poorest within their population to manage risk and to improve the sustainability of their livelihoods. It will do this by using a multi-pronged approach which:
• Raises awareness and empowers people in the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa (clergy, authorities and inhabitants) on the actual impacts of climate change on local economies and on the health of populations
• Advises the municipality of Guaimaca on the development of public policies and legal instruments to tackle climate change,
• Implements integrated actions to mitigate or adapt to climate change through natural resources management and the sustainable use of biodiversity in the communities of the Lepaterique watershed basin.
The activities to be realized are organized in two main groups:
1)	CLIMATE CHANGE: Information and awareness activities on climate change; training capacity for local governments and communities to plan for climate change approach; training communities in the Municipality of Guaimaca about climate change and sustainable livelihoods; and the promotion of “Green Communities”.
2)	SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES: Women of the communities of Guaimaca will be the beneficiaries of environment and conservation practices introduced.. Implementation of patio waste water treatment filters made of carbon and sand; improved organic agricultural practices, construction of eco-ovens, orientation on forest conservation and implementation of ‘live’ fences, HIV &amp; AIDS prevention education with the youth among the target population. Twenty needy families, priorizing women, will be selected to develop model patio gardens, installation of ovens and water treatment filters.

Direct Beneficiaries include 20 agricultural families of 6 members each, 100 farm leaders and 20 public servants.  Indirect beneficiaries are the 14,000 inhabitants of the Guaimaca Municipality who benefit from the environmental improvements, as well as those radio listeners and TV viewers who take notice of the campaign. </narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON066"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON066"><narrative>Caritas Honduras, Tegucigalpa Archdiocese</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON066" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2010-04-15" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2011-04-14" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="40" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="31161" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="43060" percentage="40" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2010-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2011-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2010-04-15">20489.4737</value></budget><transaction ref="36861"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2010-03-30" /><value value-date="2010-03-30">21147.3684</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-HON066"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="39349"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2010-03-30" /><value value-date="2010-03-30">-657.8947</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-HON066"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="52350"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2010-04-13" /><value value-date="2010-03-30">20489.4700</value><receiver-org><narrative>Caritas Honduras, Tegucigalpa Archdiocese</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON070</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Sustainable Development in the Rural Areas With a Food Security and Risk Management Approach</narrative></title><description><narrative>This project aims to strengthen the productive and marketing capacity of sugar cane producers -121 households - in Yoro Municipality of Honduras.
Working with three producer enterprises, CAFOD’s partner Comal – a network of grassroots farmer organisations - aims to do this through:
•	promotion of decentralisation of food supply chains and thus increased ownership and decision making by producers;
•	workshops on organisational principles and practice, and entrepreneurship;
•	organisation of committees, and documented action planning, for each enterprise involved;
•	provision of equipment for sugar packing in the community (rather than centrally);
•	strengthening of the enterprises’ financial and accounting systems and practices, through the purchase and installation of appropriate software, and training in its use.

project is focussed in Water Resources Management with Women’s Empowerment and will be implemented by The Reflection, Investigation and Communication Team (ERIC-SJ) in Honduras that is a member of the CAFOD’s Livelihoods and DRR platform in Central America. it will be implemented in 1 municipality and 9 communities benefiting to 460 people (394 women, 66 men). Another problem in Central America is the impact that natural disasters have; every single year flooding or drought has extensive negative impacts on rural families’ livelihoods. There are two main problems caused by climate change: quality of water affected by temperature change and the availability of water especially for agricultural purposes due to prolonged drought. The municipality of El Progreso, Honduras, is located in areas where there exist gaps in water and sanitation facilities while others have been damaged by natural disasters and to completely repair these is too expensive for communities who are very poor. The depletion of water resources is the main problem, especially right now by the mining enterprises, as these are left unprotected by the construction of open-pit mines. This situation worsens the situation in the communities especially for women who are most affected since they are in charge of the domestic work (clean houses, cooking, carrying water, education of children, and personal hygiene for each member of their family, etc). As in other countries in the region, women and children are at risk because they need to walk long distances alone to collect water. While women participate in the local water committees, they are not in decision-making posts and lack influence and are unable to take on important roles. The main aim is to promote and enhance women’s participation during programme implementation and to improve project sustainability. Also the project will work with the community members to improve environmental and health practices, and to implement sustainable practices. All these techniques will be implemented around natural water sources and springs using a watershed management approach. One of the most important issues will be the strengthening of key grassroots organizations: The Rural Water Network in Honduras and one local women organizations, the Producer Women’s Network (REMUPRO) in El Progreso, Honduras.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON073"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="22" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON073"><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON073" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2013-01-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2014-12-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="14030" percentage="50" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15180" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="31161" percentage="30" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2012-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2013-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2013-01-01">23330.0000</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2013-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2014-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2014-01-01">20000.0000</value></budget><transaction ref="43599"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2013-01-31" /><value value-date="2013-01-31">23330.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-HON073"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="43600"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2014-02-20" /><value value-date="2014-02-20">20000.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-1-202669-HON073"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="57436"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2013-02-01" /><value value-date="2013-01-31">23330.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="59302"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2014-03-04" /><value value-date="2014-02-20">20000.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON074</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Ecological agriculture contributing to food security </narrative></title><description><narrative>The purpose of this project, run by CAFOD’s partner CEHPRODEC, is to contribute to increased food security while supporting efforts for recovery of damages for 108 households from two municipalities affected by open-sky mining industries in Honduras.
The project has two strands:
(1)	enabling the implementation of ecological agriculture by families in communities affected by open sky mining, so that in three years the they are producing 30% of their own food. A ’peasant farm’ approach, where specific farms serve as a reference for surrounding farmers, will be applied. The project will:
•	identify and design production systems for 12 ecological farms;
•	develop an awareness campaign about ecological agriculture;
•	deliver 6 irrigation systems;
•	run workshops on ecological farm design, organic fertiliser production, production costs, nutrition and food preparation;
•	facilitate monitoring and exchange visits.

(2)	addressing the issues raised by the violation of human rights by foreign companies in the extractives industry, through:

•	strategy planning and dissemination workshops;
•	publicity for testimonies of affected people;
•	preparation of the case files of affected people from Siria Valley for presentation to the Honduras government;
•	technical advice and accompaniment for affected people in the Supreme Court;.
•	civil society campaigning against the depletion of natural resources.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" Honduras</narrative></title><description><narrative>Current rural policies are aimed at strengthening mono-cropping and agribusiness, not small farmers. In Honduras, 8 out of 10 families have no land or less than five hectares of land to work. Poverty exceeds 70% in households in rural areas and 40% of rural households live in extreme poverty. The last two years in Honduras has seen a food crisis that was considered unprecedented in the history of the country. It affected 64 municipalities in the country and more than 76 000 small producers. The project aims to improve the livelihoods of 90 rural families in northern Honduras. The project will use a participatory strategy to engage 30 families in implementing changes in the management of their agricultural crops, soil, food production and marketing. The project will promote an agro-ecological production system that is environmentally friendly and improves the resilience of the social -natural systems to the effects of climate change. ERIC-RP will show that agro-ecological systems strengthen food sovereignty and security, and nutrition. Project sustainability rests on the learning and management abilities of rural families for increasing sustainable production and marketing of products, generating more income for rural families and promoting equity. The main goal of the project is to increase income and produce enough food during the year to improve nutrition. As part of the accompaniment of the groups, the goal is to help farmers improve their decision making so their investments improve sustainability and social responsibility.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON077"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="22" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON077"><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON077" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2017-01-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2019-12-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="23210" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="31140" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="31161" percentage="40" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="32130" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="43040" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="43060" percentage="20" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2016-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2017-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2017-01-01">20000.0000</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2017-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2018-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2018-01-01">20000.0000</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2018-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2019-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2019-01-01">20000.0000</value></budget><transaction ref="49410"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2017-02-19" /><value value-date="2017-02-19">20000.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON077"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="50313"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2017-12-15" /><value value-date="2017-12-15">20000.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON077"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="51657"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2019-01-21" /><value value-date="2019-01-21">20000.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON077"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="63309"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2017-02-23" /><value value-date="2017-02-19">20000.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="64540"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2017-12-19" /><value value-date="2017-12-15">20000.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="66002"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2019-01-28" /><value value-date="2019-01-21">20000.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON078</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Strengthening business management capacity for six groups of the Comal Network</narrative></title><description><narrative>In 2012, the Comal Network began a decentralization process to improve their marketing system, empowering member organisations through strengthened management, administration and governance. project is aimed to improve access to justice, denouncing human rights violations, institutional weaknesses and lack of Rule of Law in Honduras. Advocacy initiatives against impunity will be promoted, specially related to natural resources, land and territory rights. Also, Human Rights Defenders' work will be supported through alliances with local, national and international networks, accompaniment, training and research. As a result of these actions, a deeper analysis and debate on human rights situation will be disseminated. As in previous projects, partner will continue being part of the following alliances: a) Coalition against Impunity, an initiative for national articulation of 30 human rights organisations; b) Monitoring Committee to comply with the Resolutions of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights; c) Social Movement Platform of Honduras: 20 organisations developing an agenda in defence of natural resources.

At organisational level, FUNDAERIC is continually developing internal training processes and self-assessments that identify improvement areas and priority actions. The following institutional areas will be supported through this project:
- Strategic Planning 2018-2021. M&amp;E will ensure that project responds to the long-term objectives.
- Gender Policy.
- Code of ethics.
- Administrative Manual improvement
- Institutional Security Plan adjustment. </narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON079"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="22" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON079"><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON079" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2017-11-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2019-10-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15130" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15160" percentage="40" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="43040" percentage="10" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2017-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2018-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2017-11-01">20000.0000</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2018-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2019-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2018-11-01">21000.0000</value></budget><transaction ref="50308"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2017-11-30" /><value value-date="2017-11-30">20000.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON079"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="51434"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2018-10-31" /><value value-date="2018-10-31">21000.0000</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON079"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="64457"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2017-12-19" /><value value-date="2017-11-30">20000.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="65750"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2018-11-05" /><value value-date="2018-10-31">21000.0000</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON080</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Agroecological farming practices contributing to food security and greater incomes for small farmers</narrative></title><description><narrative>Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the region.  Poverty exceeds 70% in households in rural areas and 40% of rural households live in extreme poverty.   Another problem in Honduras is the impact that natural disasters.  Every single year flooding or drought has extensive negative impacts on rural families’ livelihoods. In the years 2015 and 2016 Honduras has seen a food crisis that was considered unprecedented in the history of the country. Current rural policies are aimed at strengthening mono-cropping and agribusiness, not small farmers.

CEHPRODEC decided to work with the same families from previous years, especially with social organizations like the Environmental Committee of the Siria Valley (CAVS) and the National Association for the Promotion of Ecological Agriculture (ANAFAE).

This project is a continuation of previous projects and and is based on an assessment of the current national and local context. After the analysis within CEHPRODEC about the social context and the political dynamics evolving in the country, they concluded that the government has continued promoting politicies that permit the growth of extractive industry (especially gold) with negative social, economic and environmental impacts, as well as the accompanying violations of human rights.

The project aims to improve the livelihoods of 20 rural households in northern Honduras. The project will use a participatory strategy to directly engage 145 peasants in implementing changes in the management of their agricultural crops, soil, food production and marketing. The project will promote an agro-ecological production system that is environmentally friendly and improves the resilience of the social-natural systems to the effects of climate change. The main goal of the project is to increase income and produce enough food during the year to improve nutrition as result of the agroecology practices implemented in the farms. advocating tools within parishes and local communities at the South region of the country. The target groups are community organisations such as Environmental Committees and organised water boards in Gualaco - San Esteban, Salamá and Dulce Nobre de Culmi within the department of Olancho.
The main approach considers the following stages: a) Participatory research and reflection; b) Training with human rights defenders on defence of territory; c) Organisational strengthening and leadership; d) Local, regional, national and international advocacy. As this is a relevant need by the leaders in the territories of Olancho, it has been consulted with the different environmental committees and parish instances, including the priorities and methodology. The project has considered the experience working across other regions in Honduras during the last decade. In this sense, a constant dialogue with the local communities allows the partner to know in detail the local dynamics of grassroots groups and organised faith leaders. The proposed activities have already been tested in other regions also linked to the Catholic Church and support of the local Bishop. </narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" has been a significant increase in the number of human rights defenders killed, threatened, stigmatised and criminalised in Honduras, highlighted as the most dangerous country of the world for the defence of the environment. Only during the last 10 years 123 land rights defenders were murdered. This initiative aims to support and protect human right defenders at risk working on land and environmental rights across the country. The partner has worked with national and international networks in advocacy initiatives to raise the awareness through reliable evidence. The lawyers Team has carried out strategic litigation work at the Inter-American Human Rights System on cases of criminalisation of defenders working on land rights. There is a renewed local and young leadership within communities accompanied by the partner promoting a “popular sovereignty” concept, which has been scaled to a national and regional level. Alliances with ecumenical organisations, parishes and social movements will be relevant in the implementation and the care of the common home is a media content production cross-cutting topic. ERIC-RP has a relevant leadership within the Commission for Social Apostolate of the Jesuits in Central America (CPAS). In particular this mission is accomplished through the development and diffusion of social, theological and cultural analysis and reflection.
Context update 2022
In January, the first woman president in history, Xiomara Castro, took office with a programme that included an explicit mention of the need to incorporate comprehensive protection policies for human rights defenders. The ratification of the Escazú Agreement by the Honduran Congress could open the door to greater transparency by the private sector and recognition of land and environmental defenders. This is the first binding instrument in the world to include specific regulations on land and environmental defenders.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" model.</narrative></title><description><narrative>Current rural policies are aimed at strengthening mono-cropping and agribusiness, not small farmers. Policies on the environment and the sale of natural assets is alarming - 31% of the territory is under concession (approx. 34,900 km2). Since 2010, 548 natural resource concessions have been awarded, of which 265 are in the north-western region of the country. There are around 21 hydroelectric projects in indigenous territories without prior consultation. In Honduras, 8 out of 10 families have no land or less than five hectares of land to work. Poverty exceeds 70% in households in rural areas and 40% of rural households live in extreme poverty. The last two years in Honduras has seen a food crisis that was considered unprecedented in the history of the country.

This project aims to improve the livelihoods, grassroot organization and advocacy capacity of participating HHs through citizen participation spaces in northern Honduras using a holistic and integral approach. The project will promote changes in the management of their agricultural crops, soil, and food production with emphasis on agroecology and marketing. The project will improve the resilience of the social-natural systems to the effects of climate change. One of the target groups are youth, participating in different social platforms. Youth will contribute to solutions for the civic crisis in Honduras by using citizen participation spaces to demand human rights. Youth networks will channel their demands to local and national authorities using advocacy plans developed as part of the training process through the Political &amp; Citizen Training School (EFPC). ERIC-RP continues to accompany people who are victims of human rights violations, particularly emblematic cases related to the defense of natural resources. As part of the holistic approach ERIC-RP will share and communicate all successful experiences and lessons learnt through community journalist networks.

However, the information obtained from community leaders indicates that there are more remote communities devastated by strong winds and floods. Unfortunately, getting more clear information on needs right now is difficult as, very practically, people can no longer charge their cell phones. Many of the affected population has chosen to seek shelters in churches, parishes and other makeshift community centres. These shelters are basic which further increases the risk of the spread of Covid-19 and water-borne diseases as well safeguarding and protection concerns.
-160 households (1,100 people) have food in the immediate post-Hurricane stage and are early recovering food and nutritional security.
-13 departments (1.5 million people) will receive awareness campaigns on good hygiene prevention practices (through the radio and the local periphery) to promote measures against the transmission of Covid19, health practices and waterborne diseases aggravated by the floods; and protection messages to ensure adequate care for children and the elderly.
-Diagnosis of vulnerabilities, damages and needs for long-term rehabilitation at the local level where there is a presence.

Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Latin America, with the largest concentration of HIV &amp; AIDS in Central America. Puerta Abierta (Open Door) works with people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) and their families in conditions of poverty and inequality. Puerta Abierta was created in 1997 by the Catholic Congregation of the Vincentian Fathers to respond to the needs of PLWHA in the Sula Valley, in which San Pedro Sula is located. Their aim is to provide a holistic and effective response to the HIV and AIDS pandemic in San Pedro Sula, opening coordination spaces at Church level and with other local and national institutions and providing processes of holistic care to people with HIV and their families - medical, psychological and social care -; home visits; education - and preventive work with PLWHAS, parish communities and general public. Activities focus on the personal, family, social, psychological and spiritual aspects of living with HIV &amp; AIDS, with both formal and non-formal education components. The formal component includes educational classes and medical care, including the provision of some drugs where needs are identified; the non-formal components include more varied activities. Examples are educational-entertainment activities including exhibits and games in schools and a Puerta Abierta programme (called Children’s Window - Ventana del Niño), awareness raising talks in classrooms in schools and in parishes. Activities for adults include workshops and training sessions with PLWHAs. And the provision of grants to families of PLWHA to allow for children to attend school, covering school fees and materials, and food supplies. The project also supports the voice of PLWHA in Honduran society. They assert people’s rights within the public health system when they are not provided with treatment. It also includes networking with other organisations providing support to PLWHAs. The food production is based on cultivation techniques that do not favour self-consumption and that are based on technologies that contaminate the livelihoods of the population, due to the excessive use of chemical substances (fungicides, pesticides, chemical fertilisers of different kinds), greatly affecting the environment and the quality of life of the people.
The project will develop a comprehensive accompaniment strategy for the Olancho Environmental Movement in Defence of Life (MAODVI). CEHPRODEC brings to this initiative the main lessons learned from its previous work in other territories, with the support of CAFOD and other donors. Based on primary evidence, the integral ecology approach will be promoted, understood in the local context of the target groups, as the connection between their community empowerment, their protagonism in demanding their rights from decision-makers and the implementation of agro-ecological initiatives that contribute to their economic and social autonomy. Together, the aim is to generate dignified living conditions for the movement's leadership and their families, as well as to contribute to mitigating situations of insecurity derived from their work as defenders of our common home. The processes of participatory community research have made it possible to articulate agroecological approaches, as a way of "feeling and living the countryside" and the agri-food system, considering the complexity of agronomic, ecological, social and economic conditions, prioritising the local voice and agency of the defenders of MAODVI.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON088"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="22" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON088"><narrative>Centro Hondureño para la Promoción y el Desarollo Comunitario</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON088" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2023-09-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2026-08-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="11330" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="31140" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="31161" percentage="40" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="32210" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="43040" percentage="20" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2023-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2024-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2023-09-01">49543.3070</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2024-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2025-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2024-09-01">49543.3070</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2025-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2026-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2025-09-01">39393.9393</value></budget><transaction ref="57615"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2023-12-22" /><value value-date="2023-12-22">49543.3070</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON088"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="58486"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-12-17" /><value value-date="2024-12-17">49543.3070</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON088"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="60318"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2025-12-18" /><value value-date="2025-12-18">39393.9393</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON088"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="72860"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-01-17" /><value value-date="2023-12-22">49543.3100</value><receiver-org><narrative>Centro Hondureño para la Promoción y el Desarollo Comunitario</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="73858"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-12-19" /><value value-date="2024-12-17">24771.6500</value><receiver-org><narrative>Centro Hondureño para la Promoción y el Desarollo Comunitario</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="73859"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2025-05-01" /><value value-date="2024-12-17">24771.6500</value><receiver-org><narrative>Centro Hondureño para la Promoción y el Desarollo Comunitario</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="75811"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2025-12-22" /><value value-date="2025-12-18">19696.9700</value><receiver-org><narrative>Centro Hondureño para la Promoción y el Desarollo Comunitario</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="75850"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2025-12-22" /><value value-date="2025-12-18">19696.9700</value><receiver-org><narrative>Centro Hondureño para la Promoción y el Desarollo Comunitario</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON089</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Defending tomorrow through historical memory and collective action</narrative></title><description><narrative>Extractive policies and practices on the environment and common goods have are producing a serious damage in the northwestern region of Honduras. 31% of the territory is concessioned (approximately 34,900 km2). During last 10 years, 548 natural resource concessions have been awarded at national level, of which 265 are located in this region. There are about 21 hydroelectric projects in indigenous peoples' territories, without social participation and prior consultation. As well as, the agro-industrial model of palm export has continued.
The concessions have generated conflicts for the conservation of natural resources. The forced displacements that they entail for the peasant, indigenous and Afro-Honduran communities makes these projects enter into strong opposition to the the needs and rights in local communities, thus becoming in source of social and political conflict.
In this context, the proposal is linked to the objectives and achievements of the EU funded regional project (ICD1016) since it will keep issues of defence of land rights on the public agenda.
The project is also linked to the "Strategic Plan for integral ecology and food sovereignty" presented by the partner in 2020, inspired in "Laudato Si" and considering the impact of the pandemic in Honduras.
The partner will develop strengthening initiatives for accompanied social movements and communities through the design and implementation of legal, protection and advocacy strategies. The expected changes include to increase the awareness on the importance of stronger institutions and the Rule of Law in Honduras to protect land rights defenders. The planned training and participatory research processes aim to empower the targeted communities and defenders. </narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON089"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="22" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON089"><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON089" /><activity-status code="3" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2021-02-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2021-11-30" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="12340" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15130" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15160" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="32210" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="43040" percentage="30" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2020-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2021-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2021-02-01">17410.7142</value></budget><transaction ref="54670"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2021-01-27" /><value value-date="2021-01-27">10267.8571</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON089"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="54669"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2021-01-27" /><value value-date="2021-01-27">7142.8571</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON089"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="69359"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2021-02-25" /><value value-date="2021-01-27">17410.7100</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="69418"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2021-03-15" /><value value-date="2021-01-27">-17410.7100</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="69542"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2021-04-15" /><value value-date="2021-01-27">17410.7100</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="69648"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2021-05-20" /><value value-date="2021-01-27">-17410.7100</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="69655"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2021-05-24" /><value value-date="2021-01-27">17410.7100</value><receiver-org><narrative>Fundación Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación /Radio Progreso</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON090</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Support to the operation of San Juan Bosco Centre </narrative></title><description><narrative>ERIC-RP owns the San Juan Bosco Centre, located in the municipality of Tela, Department of Atlántida. The project will improve its infrastructure, but also supporting legal procedures to enhance opportunities and a social marketing strategy. By developing constructive actions to improve and equip the centre, it will be possible to have better conditions of comfort and greater security. At the same time the project will increase the production of organic fertiliser, the planting of vegetable gardens and fruit trees, as well as agro-ecological training modules.

As Puerta Abierta consolidated and defined its services, the demand for care grew, as did the medical needs and human support. Then the strategies of integral care of this technical team and volunteers began to be defined, requesting financial support from external cooperation to strengthen the care provided and the integrated and human quality support that accompanies users who day by day request spiritual, medical, family and social help.
CAFOD has been accompanying and strengthening the organisational and promotional work for adults with HIV and advanced HIV and affected family members that the Open Door Programme attends to in the metropolitan area of the Sula Valley in Honduras. CAFOD has been supporting since 2003 to date, contributing to the quality of life of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and their families, in the comprehensive response to HIV and advanced HIV, in the reduction of morbidity and in the processes of education, prevention and information about HIV in children in the Metropolitan Area of the Sula Valley.
Puerta Abierta has also been working on gender identity as a cross-cutting issue.
The goal is to contribute to the quality of life of people with HIV (priority groups included on the CAFOD Central America programme) by changing the self-esteem and self-worth of women Programme users and their relationships in family and community (approx. 55% of users are women) through home accompaniment, training on human rights, community educational prevention and awareness raising in media (radio and social networks - e.g. FB and whatsapp).</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON091"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="23" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON091"><narrative>Puerta Abierta</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON091" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2024-01-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2025-12-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="13040" percentage="50" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="13040" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15110" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="16064" percentage="10" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2023-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2024-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2024-01-01">18062.9921</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2024-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2025-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2025-01-01">11538.4615</value></budget><transaction ref="57614"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2023-12-22" /><value value-date="2023-12-22">18062.9921</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON091"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="58438"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-12-04" /><value value-date="2024-12-04">11538.4615</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON091"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="72879"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-01-17" /><value value-date="2023-12-22">18062.9900</value><receiver-org><narrative>Puerta Abierta</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="73816"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2024-12-17" /><value value-date="2024-12-04">11538.4600</value><receiver-org><narrative>Puerta Abierta</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON092</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Sowing citizenship with food sovereignty and respect for human rights</narrative></title><description><narrative>The project aims to address some of the key issues in the north-western region of Honduras, especially in the departments of Yoro, Atlántida, Colón, La Paz and Lempira, which are characterised by high socio-environmental vulnerability and conflict. According to official reports, in 2023, 2.4 million people in Honduras will be in a situation of crisis or emergency of acute food insecurity, with Yoro being one of the departments with the highest levels of food insecurity. Only between 2022 and 2023 more than 23 defenders of territory and natural resources were reported murdered, originating from the departments of Colón, Lempira, Yoro and Atlántida, among others.
This situation impacts on the quality of life in rural areas, on the limited availability of resources to develop productive and economic initiatives, due to the high cost of agricultural inputs, climate uncertainty and environmental deterioration caused by practices harmful to the land, with few possibilities of accessing resources from local and/or national governments that encourage ecological and sustainable agricultural production, entrepreneurial projects, access to a healthy diet, the right to land and water.
The project will support agroecological initiatives and influence local and national authorities through proposals that guarantee access to food, access to water and land, and respect for the sovereign decisions of communities regarding the defence and protection of their natural resources. In this territorial context of socio-environmental conflict, access to justice, truth and reparation will be pursued, as well as protection for defenders of human rights and natural resources, particularly vulnerable populations such as women, youth, social communicators and indigenous peoples, who, in addition to living in precarious conditions, are victims of criminalisation and stigmatisation for defending their right to land, their ancestral territory, and their right to self-determination.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" These family farms use native seeds as a heritage and fundamental input for their food systems. However, for the promoters of "improved" seeds in Honduras (SAG-Senasa, DICTA, Agronomy Universities, seed sector), the native or creole seed belongs to prehistory, it does not exist. According to this sector, all peasants and indigenous people use "improved seeds" in their systems. On 17 November 2021, the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) declared unconstitutional the Law for the Protection of Plant Varieties, better known as the "Monsanto Law" (Decree No. 21-2012).Several peasant organisations, including Red COMAL, fought for ten years against this legislation, which not only threatened the free cultivation of native and creole species in Honduras, and obeyed a food industry worth millions, but also threatened the ancestral knowledge of native peoples who are increasingly facing droughts, floods and other effects of the climate crisis. The decree declaring the unconstitutionality was published in the Official Gazette until 28 October 2022.
This project aims to contribute significantly to strengthen food systems through native seeds sovereignty. The project aims to strengthen capacities of communities for seed conservation, protection of biodiversity and learning.
Three key results of this project are:
R1. Producer organisations and their families are trained on the importance of preserving native seeds and coordinate their actions.
R2. Two Native Seed Conservation Centers (seed banks) are established and have a system for classification and learning of adcquired native seeds.
R3. Urban and rural population at municipal level are sensitised and promoting actions for the conservation of native seeds as a result of learning on native seeds.

Implemented by Red COMAL, the initiative combines productive infrastructure, capacity strengthening, and market integration to address poverty, unemployment, environmental degradation and limited access to fair markets affecting rural communities in the municipalities of San José de Comayagua, Taulabé and San Pedro de Zacapa.
Over a period of two years (2026–2027), the project will establish a granulated panela processing plant and a training school that will function as a field-based learning centre for agroecological practices, efficient processing technologies and good manufacturing practices. The plant will be installed on a dedicated site in El Mogote community and will serve as a hub for producers from nine rural communities in the Lake Yojoa Basin, with a strong focus on women and youth participation.

The project will work directly with 70 small-scale sugarcane producers (40 men and 30 women), reaching an estimated 350 household members, and indirectly benefiting at least 10,000 people through environmental awareness, healthy food promotion and safeguarding messaging. Key results include:

-strengthened governance and leadership through the creation and consolidation of an association of sugarcane producers in the Lake Yojoa Basin;
-increased productivity and yields through agroecological farming practices and farmer-to-farmer learning;
-improved processing capacity through the construction of an environmentally friendly plant using bagasse-fuelled efficient ovens, reducing deforestation and pollution.
-enhanced household incomes, with producers securing fair prices and a minimum net profit margin; and
-improved family nutrition, promoting granulated panela as a healthy alternative to refined sugar.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON098"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="22" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON098"><narrative>Red de Comercializacion Comunitaria Alternativa</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON098" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2026-03-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2028-02-28" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="11330" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="15150" percentage="10" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="31161" percentage="40" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="31191" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="32130" percentage="10" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2025-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2026-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2026-03-01">2852.3840</value></budget><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2026-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2027-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2027-03-01">22222.2222</value></budget><transaction ref="60469"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-03-04" /><value value-date="2026-03-04">2852.3840</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON098"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="60470"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-03-06" /><value value-date="2026-03-06">22222.2222</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON098"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction><transaction ref="77125"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-04-09" /><value value-date="2026-03-04">2852.3800</value><receiver-org><narrative>Red de Comercializacion Comunitaria Alternativa</narrative></receiver-org></transaction><transaction ref="77314"><transaction-type code="3" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-04-24" /><value value-date="2026-03-06">311.9300</value><receiver-org><narrative>Red de Comercializacion Comunitaria Alternativa</narrative></receiver-org></transaction></iati-activity><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-HON099</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>Red COMAL - Learning Journey on Agroecology</narrative></title><description><narrative>As an organisation that is partner-led and that supports local agency, voices, and leadership, CAFOD finds ourselves in a difficult position when it comes to demonstrating our impact. With this context in mind, Learning Journeys have been proposed as a timebound initiative that will help us explore specific thematic questions across multiple programmes, learn together, and ultimately provide organisational impact level data.

The initiative responds to the increasing number of migrants who remain in Honduras for extended periods while facing precarious living conditions such as lack of stable income, limited access to basic services, and insecure housing.

The project will be implemented in two phases during 2026. The first phase, in Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela, will support 20 migrant families through food vouchers, entrepreneurship training, and small seed investments to help them establish income-generating activities. These actions aim to strengthen their economic independence and reduce vulnerability during their stay in the country.

The second phase will take place at the Sagrada Familia Temporary Rest Center in Danlí, El Paraíso, where migrants will receive safe temporary accommodation, hygiene services, and approximately 3,660 hot meals. This support will ensure dignified and immediate humanitarian assistance for people in transit or in temporary stay.

Overall, the project is expected to assist approximately 1,260 migrants, including women, men, and children, addressing urgent humanitarian needs while also promoting dignity, protection of fundamental rights, and improved living conditions. Through coordination with humanitarian actors and the application of international standards in shelter, food security, and protection, the initiative will contribute to a more effective and compassionate response to migration in Honduras.</narrative></description><participating-org type="21" role="1" ref="GB-CHC-285776" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON100"><narrative>Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)</narrative></participating-org><participating-org type="22" role="4" activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON100"><narrative>Caritas Nacional Honduras</narrative></participating-org><other-identifier type="A1" ref="HON100" /><activity-status code="2" /><activity-date type="2" iso-date="2026-04-01" /><activity-date type="3" iso-date="2027-03-31" /><contact-info><organisation><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></organisation><email>cafod@cafod.org.uk</email></contact-info><recipient-country code="HN" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="72010" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="72040" percentage="20" /><sector vocabulary="1" code="73010" percentage="60" /><policy-marker code="2" significance="2" /><default-flow-type code="30" /><default-finance-type code="110" /><default-aid-type code="C01" /><default-tied-status code="5" /><budget type="1" status="1"><period-start iso-date="2026-04-01" /><period-end iso-date="2027-03-31" /><value currency="GBP" value-date="2026-04-01">48148.1481</value></budget><transaction ref="60657"><transaction-type code="1" /><transaction-date iso-date="2026-03-11" /><value value-date="2026-03-11">48148.1481</value><provider-org provider-activity-id="GB-CHC-285776-HON100"><narrative>CAFOD General Funds</narrative></provider-org></transaction></iati-activity></iati-activities>
