﻿<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><iati-activities version="2.02" generated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-activity hierarchy="1" xml:lang="en" default-currency="GBP" last-updated-datetime="2026-06-01T00:00:00"><iati-identifier>GB-CHC-285776-NEP028</iati-identifier><reporting-org ref="GB-CHC-285776" type="21"><narrative>CAFOD</narrative></reporting-org><title><narrative>NEPAL flood Response and early recovery programme 2017</narrative></title><description><narrative>Massive floods and landslides triggered by incessant and torrential rains have killed 149 people leaving other 134 injured and 27 missing (Nepal Red Cross). according to the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of Nepal. Approximately 6 million people have been affected by the catastrophe. . 1.7 million population in 26 districts of Tarai region have been severely affected. A total of 64,997 houses are completely damaged, 144,973 partially damaged and 92,216 families have been displaced. 
According to the Nepal Ministry of Agriculture Development assessment, agriculture sector which contributes 29% of the national GDP has suffered a loss of Rs. 2.7 billion due to the floods. according to Reliefweb updates on 20 Sep 2017 almost all of the standing crops and farm lands have been affected by the floods. Power outage, disruption in communication were observed right after the flood and it still continues in many places. Livestock has also been affected by the floods and there are news reports on the loss of domestic animals. Roads in various parts have been damaged and few bridges have collapsed resulting in lack of mobility. it was estimated that the inundation has caused a large number of domestic animals to be dead.
Caritas Nepal has started its response by providing cooked food to displaced people and  dry ration and non-food items to people whose villages were submerged. Community kitchens were organised in common areas.   Caritas reached out to 7251 families in 11 districts including Bardia, Kailali, Dang, Banke, Nawalparasi, Chitwan, Jhapa, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Saptari and Udyapur during the start of the emergency. More than 3500 people are fed with twice day for 3-5 days through community kitchen, and 173 pregnant and lactating women were supported with nutritious food and non-food items.
For the recovery phase C Nepal has revised the targets. the project will be covering 5,550 vulnerable HHs. The project is focussing on Shelter and NFI, WASH, livelihoods and DRR.

It responds to partners weaknesses' in community-led development and accountability to people and communities that has been identified by the country team through the CAFODs own Accountability Minimum Standards tool (2015) and visits by thematic advisors (Gender, Water and Environment and Livelihoods) in 2015.
