The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing for more than nine years, with significant detrimental impacts to the economy and livelihoods. Millions of people in Yemen suffer from the compound effects of armed violence, ongoing economic crisis, and disrupted public services. Prolonged conflict, increasing fragility of Yemen's economy, and decreasing purchasing power among the communities have greatly exacerbated the people’s vulnerabilities.

Since due to COVID-19 and the funding crisis affected the operational context over the last year, the needs on the ground were re-assessed based on close coordination with the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP), Governorate Health Office (GHO) for Aden and relevant District Health Offices (DHOs). Based on their on-going mapping and needs analysis, we discussed the existing gaps in the health sector so that the coordinated response can be implemented. As a result all together identifying the following target HFs and population within this intervention:
This project (Caritas Emergency Appeal 2024 for Yemen) aims to provide lifesaving Health and WASH services to 62,644 girls, boys, men and women affected by the humanitarian crisis, in Aden governorate in Yemen. This includes
Health: Rehabilitation and support of ongoing work of five health facilities
Water, sanitation, and hygiene: Complementary rehabilitation of WASH facilities in selected health facilities
Improve the access of the conflict affected people to food and livelihood opportunities

It also strengthens two hospitals in Ad Dale’ and Hadhramaut through medical equipment, minor rehabilitation, and solar power systems to restore critical services, particularly emergency obstetric and neonatal care, while improving sustainability.
In addition, the project enhances WASH services across targeted facilities by upgrading water systems, sanitation, and waste management. This ensures vulnerable populations have improved access to safe water and adequate hygiene services alongside essential health and nutrition care.
